Biography

At the age of 14, Yevhen Podolianchuk joined the Plast scout organization. His first camp was the Sich inter-troop camp. He was a member of the Yaroslav Mudryi youth troop. He took the Plast Oath in 2006. That same year, he participated in the Legion regional military scout training camp, and in 2007, he was the first participant in the Chota Krylatykh regional aviation camp. In July 2014, Yevhen Podolyanchuk was accepted into the senior scout leadership.

In 2012, he graduated from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny Army Academy with honors and a gold medal, specializing in «Management of Military Intelligence and Special Forces Units».

On September 14, 2014, the commander of the Donetsk airport defense, Colonel Reduta, had only 12 regular special forces soldiers at his disposal — they were the backbone of the defense. Zhenya was one of those who actively participated in combat operations. He worked in his specialty — constantly going on reconnaissance missions, including to the suburbs of Donetsk, to set up mine barriers. He was everywhere, at every hot spot, at all positions along the entire perimeter of our defense.

Yevgen Podolyanychuk, commander of the 3rd Special Forces Regiment, died a brave death. He was one of the most daring and competent commanders of special forces groups. There are few like him — those who carry out orders, know how to «get to the point», rush into battle themselves, and don't «mow down» others, who think independently and critically. How many like him were there in the army and in the whole country — 30, 40? A huge burden fell on the shoulders of these young lieutenants and captains, and many of them gave their lives to protect their homeland. Podolyanychuk fought at the airport from the very first battle on May 26, 2014. And he fought professionally.

He is survived by his wife.

By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 754/2014 of October 6, 2014, «for personal courage and heroism in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine», he was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree (posthumously).
