Biography

Born in Sloviansk, he is a graduate of V. Karazin Kharkiv National University. While a student, he launched a project to re-Ukrainize his native region. In 2017, he earned his master’s degree. In January 2014, Mykhailo traveled to Maidan in Kyiv, but his parents did not find out about it right away. They also didn’t immediately learn about their son’s participation in defending the Kharkiv Regional State Administration when pro-Russian forces attempted to seize the building. Mykhailo’s father says that their son advocated for change in society and believed that it was necessary to move forward. Mykhailo actively collaborated with the Foundation for Civic Initiatives and the NGO «Building Ukraine Together» (BUR). He volunteered at BUR camps in eastern Ukraine. As head of the Student Council on campus, he oversaw the well-being of the dormitories.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, Mykhailo evacuated to Lviv, where he joined the ranks of the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After training, he set out to defend his native Donbas and took part in battles near Bakhmut. In March 2023, he received a Letter of Appreciation from the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

On April 15, 2023, Mykhailo was killed while carrying out a combat mission near the town of Kreminna in the Luhansk region. A friend of the deceased, Ilona, noted: «A bright and cheerful person, a true patriot. We are losing the best of us.»
