Biography

Roman was born in the village of Strikhivtsi in the Khmelnytskyi region. He studied at the History Department of the I. Ohienko Kamianets-Podilskyi National University. After graduating, Roman worked as a teacher at the Solobkivets Lyceum and the Hluskovets Gymnasium; he led the «Dzhura» national-patriotic education club and the «Sich Riflemen» group.

After completing his bachelor’s degree, Roman planned to continue his studies in a master’s program but decided to devote himself to volunteer work. He volunteered at the «Building Ukraine Together» camps, where he helped rebuild homes in eastern Ukraine that had been damaged by the fighting.

With the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he voluntarily joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He carried out combat missions in the east of the country. On April 18, 2022, he went missing during fighting near Rubizhne in the Luhansk region.

Roman was not only a talented historian and educator but also an avid sportsman. In 2021, he participated in the Kyiv Ultramarathon, finishing in fourth place. He joked with his mother: «Mom, think about what you’ll say when they interview you if I do become the champion next time.»

A memorial chess tournament is held in his honor in Kamianets-Podilskyi.

«Roman was a man who didn’t just teach history—he made history himself,» say his colleagues and friends.
