Biography

From 2016 to 2020, he was the leader of the Karasi youth group in the village of Maly Shpakiv. He was an instructor at Plast events, training sessions, and camps.

He was a member of the Rivne Plast Council for the 2017–2018 term. He participated in and organized a number of Plast training courses.

He was an environmental activist in his native village. He introduced a number of eco-initiatives.

With the start of the full-scale Russian invasion on March 6, 2022, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a reconnaissance soldier in the 42nd Battalion of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Ataman Kostya Gordienko. He acquired knowledge in drone training. He ordered parts himself and assembled and repaired drones at home.

He received the «Defender of Ukraine» award.

With the intensification of fighting in the Kharkiv direction, he was sent to fight for the city of Vovchansk. He periodically evacuated the wounded and dead.

On June 10, 2024, while escorting a group of soldiers to positions in the city of Vovchansk, he came under enemy artillery fire. Since then, he has been officially considered missing in action. Later, a body was evacuated from the same battle site, and documents in the name of Roman Serko were found in his clothes. The body underwent DNA testing for more than six months. On January 21, 2025, investigators confirmed Roman's death.
