Biography

Since 1991, he has been a member of the first youth group «Chornobrivtsi» in Sambir. He took the Plast oath in August 1992. Later, he became one of the co-founders of the 61st O. Tysovsky Plast troop in Sambir. In 2000, during the re-registration of the Plast organization in Sambir, he became one of the co-founders of the station.

With the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he volunteered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His words were: «Who, if not me?» He served as a combat medic in one of the units of the 125th Brigade of the Lviv Territorial Defense Forces. He was killed in battle with Russian occupiers on July 5, 2022, in the Kharkiv region.

He is survived by his wife Oksana and four children.

He was awarded the Iron Plast Cross on July 9, 2022. Posthumously, soldier Hankevych was awarded the Order «For Courage» III degree.

«My heart died with you... I know you are in paradise now... because you have already been to hell. I don't know how I will go on living... but I promise you that I will be strong... as you always thought I was, for your sake and for the sake of our children... The pain is higher than the sky...,» wrote his wife Oksana.
