Biography

A community activist, standard-bearer, role model, member of the patriotic tent camp «Sich», and member of the Ukrainian National Corps. Roman was a leader in the regional camp «Kolovrat» and a member of the organizing committee of the field game «Gurby-Antonivtsi». He stood shoulder to shoulder with us during the Revolution of Dignity and was a member of the 14th Maidan Self-Defense Hundred.

At the end of August 2014, Roman became a volunteer in the Aidar battalion. However, he decided to change battalions and ended up in Donbas, where he met his future comrades-in-arms, with whom he transferred to the 93rd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the 6th Company as a rifleman. On May 28, 2015, near Donetsk Airport, in the village of Opytne, a mine attack began. Although Roman was not supposed to be at his position, he went in place of a guy who could not go to the firing line. A mine hit the trench, killing Roman. Roman took the blow himself, saving his partner. He was awarded the Order of Courage, III degree (posthumously) and the badge «For the Defense of Donetsk Airport».

«Straightforward, like a flight. Honest, to the point of being blunt. Strict, but sensitive. Responsible, beyond the absolute, with an extremely keen sense of justice and a big heart. He was one of those people who, without batting an eye, would cover you with his body, ram a plane, jump into hell to save a comrade», — memories of Roman Atamanyuk from his comrades.
